What is the Sibiu International Marathon?
Following the tradition of the London Marathon, the world’s largest fundraising event, we combine the joy of running with the joy of giving. Romania’s largest philanthropic running event, the Sibiu International Marathon, reached its 15th edition in 2026.
Next edition: MIS 2027, the 16th edition. Join us in Piața Mare, Sibiu, on 29–30 May 2027. Runner registration closes on 3 May 2027 at 23:59, Romanian time.
In 2026, the MIS community brought together 10,845 runners and 106 partners. Together, we raised 1,564,673 lei for 48 community projects.
In 2025, MIS brought together 10,475 runners, 9,051 individual donors and 94 partners. Together, they raised 1,452,793 lei for 54 community projects.
In 2024, MIS reached new milestones: 8,953 runners, 8,942 supporters and 51 projects. The community raised 1,336,124 lei, the largest amount achieved at an MIS edition up to that point.
In 2023, 47 projects received support through MIS, with 983,978 lei raised.
In 2022, the event took place on 4–5 June, raising 777,838 lei for 34 causes.
In 2021, the event took place in person on 2–3 October, raising 705,369 lei for 34 causes.
In 2020, an unusual edition adapted to the pandemic took place on 29 August. A total of 319,210 lei was raised for 30 causes. More about that edition and the funds raised is available in the MIS history.
The 2026 Sibiu International Marathon: running for our community
MIS 2026 brought together 10,845 runners, adults and children, and 106 partners. Alongside donors and supporters, they turned every kilometre into a step towards a better community: 1,564,673 lei raised for 48 community projects.
Across its 15 editions, the Sibiu International Marathon has become more than a sporting event: a movement bringing people together and supporting hundreds of projects in education, health, the environment, culture and social inclusion.

How does it work?
Non-profit organisations, initiative groups, companies and individuals propose projects. Runners choose a project to support through their participation fee and by bringing together a circle of supporters who share the same goal.
For the 2027 edition, race registration begins before project selection. Choose your race when you register. You can choose the project you support later, once the project list is published.

The story of the Sibiu International Marathon: 2012–2026
The event began in 2012 as the Sibiu Half Marathon, bringing together runners from around the world. In 2017, the addition of the 42 km race marked a turning point and the event became the Sibiu International Marathon.
On 26 May 2018, almost 4,000 runners took part, supported by around 5,770 donors. Together, they raised 592,492 lei for 26 projects. Wheelchair users participated for the first time, an important step towards a more inclusive event.
The 2018 celebrations extended across three days under the Piețe Libere banner. Residents and visitors enjoyed concerts, activities and afterparties in Piața Mare. The first Street Delivery Sibiu, a project of the Sibiu Community Foundation and Re:mediu Association, also took place as part of the event.
In 2025, 10,475 runners and 9,051 individual donors supported 54 community projects, raising 1,452,793 lei. With 94 partners involved, MIS 2025 became the largest edition up to that point.
In 2026, the 15th edition brought together 10,845 runners and 106 partners, raising 1,564,673 lei for 48 projects. The story continues on 29–30 May 2027, with the 16th edition.
